Pamela and Bear

I lost my beloved dog Blanca after a grueling 9 month battle with cancer. After she passed my heart was truly broken.  After 12 months of grieving, I thought maybe it’s time to get another dog, so I went to the pound on my lunch hour just to “look”.

There at the pound was this raggedy St. Bernard mix. It was over 100 degrees in the summer. His kennel had only filthy water. So I took him out for a walk and to give him fresh water, he drank 2 bowls.

The volunteer working there saw me with the dog and said “oh are you thinking about adopting Bear. He is wonderful. Every day I come to work and I pray he won’t be here. I would take him myself if I could but my husband and I already have 3 dogs”.

Turns out Bear was abandoned at 4 years old. He came to the pound covered in fleas and scabs and had lost most of his hair from flea infection. In his former home he lived in the backyard with his mother until she died. After her death, he developed severe separation anxiety and so his owner dropped him off at the pound.

Bear had been at the pound for about 3 weeks. He was adopted two times before and returned both times due to his severe separation anxiety. He was scheduled to be put to sleep in 2 days.

When I brought him home he had never been inside a house before and was not housebroken. He was afraid of the stairs so every night he lay at the bottom of the stairs and barked all night. He was terrified of men so he was aggressive to them. He didn’t get along with other dogs.

But he had the biggest heart I had ever seen in an animal. He tried so hard to adapt and learn despite all his anxiety and insecurity. And he loved me immediately.

Today, he is one of the calmest most confidant dogs I have ever seen. He loves everyone and every animal. He is 100% housebroken and no longer has separation anxiety at all.

He went from being a filthy, dirt-yard dog in the hood, to the pound, to living a life of doggy luxury.

How was he able to make such a quantum leap in his life?

Most dogs like him are never able to adapt.  Experts say it is almost impossible for a 4 year old dog to become house trained. And severe separation anxiety like his can rarely be cured.

How was he able to find a loving home when so many dogs like him are destroyed every day?

I knew it was because his heart is so big. Despite the fact that he was abused, neglected and abandoned he never stopped loving and he never gave up.

No matter how bad it seemed to get for him, there was never any other alternative for a beautiful soul with so much love but to attract a loving home.

I suddenly understood and I knew beyond a doubt that LOVE attracts LOVE. The vibration of love cannot go unanswered!

Bear and I were destined for each other.  Even though he had been kicked out of 3 homes.  Even though his death papers had been signed, seemingly against all odds he found his loving home.

And you know what? He healed my heart and I was able to love again as well. Suddenly I was able to think about my dog who died of cancer and feel happy. I was able to remember all the good times we shared instead of just the painful end of her life.

Although people are not dogs the principle is the same. Love cannot go unanswered.

When your heart is overflowing with love, no matter what your circumstances, no matter what your past, love will find you!

No matter where your life is right now a quantum leap is possible!

Much Love!
